The challenge of building on a compact 350 m² plot was to create a home that felt generous without overwhelming its surroundings. The design uses a vertical strategy, beginning with a broader base and gradually stepping back as the levels rise to allow a 236 m² home to feel contextually spacious. The majority of the massing is set below ground, where two large English patios on opposite sides and a strategically placed skylight bring natural light and ventilation deep into the house while maintaining privacy and helping regulate the interior temperature. The layout was tailored around the clients’ lifestyle, creating a flexible home that functions as a living and working environment.
An open-plan layout creates a spacious feel, including a double-height space in the kitchen, with large windows that allow natural light to filter through. Built-in storage and seating, along with outdoor balconies, extend the living areas to embrace indoor/outdoor living. The interior combines a contemporary, minimalist approach with subtle mid-century influences, natural materials, and a relaxed coastal style keeping the focus on simplicity, functionality, and everyday living.
